Govt Has No Plans To Increase Fuel Price - Shahrir

MELAKA, May 24 (Bernama) -- The government has no plans to increase fuel price despite the price hike of petrol by 30 per cent in Indonesia beginning Saturday, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said.

On the contrary, he said the government was now focusing on managing the subsidy system to prevent leakage and smuggling.

"For the time being, we are not considering increasing the price of petrol and diesel although we are aware of the impact of the crude oil price hike in the world market.

"We will see how the subsidy system is being managed to encourage saving and ensure that there will be no detrimental effects (to the country)," he told reporters after attending a consumer forum and dialogue at Ayer Keroh here Saturday.

Shahrir said, with the fuel price reaching AS$135 (RM434.18) a barrel, it had put the government under more pressure in managing the subsidy system.

He said the government, through the anti-inflation committee's weekly meeting, deliberated not only on the subsidy system but also on ways to increase its revenue.

Shahrir said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi would announce the streamlining of the prices of subsidised goods nationwide in his visit to Sabah soon.

This is because of the varying prices of subsidised goods, expecially rice between the peninsular, and Sabah and Sarawak, added Shahrir.

In another development, he commended the Melaka Government for calling on the private sector in the state to review the workers' minimum wage above the poverty rate of RM740 a month.

In mooting the idea Friday, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said a better minimum wage would improve the livelihood of the workers in the state.

Hmm...

I had resigned from my previous company and joined my currently company for about 2months plus, but I feel that work here is more stress, burden and not as pleasant as i work in my ex-company, although work in a bigger company with more colleagues, which mean more friends or enemies? Hmm I duno.

Nothing much has been changed since I last work as a system analyst in my ex-company and now working as a consultant, it's much similar, wat's diff is tat I’m using C# now instead of VB.net and the working environment, it's still programming all the way although the title is diff. earning not much but everyday work till like there's no tomorrow.

Although working here has got more colleagues but are they helpful? most of the time i seek for help whenever I face prob after an efficacious struggle he won't entertain me much though some times he does reply me or actually solve few of the prob that i have encountered, but when other ppl ask him, he will explain and detail everything other ppl asked but why not me ? Hmm I duno.

Some of the ppl out there are so relax about their job and getting good pay and treat very well, but why not me ? Hmm i duno. This I called it: "同人不同命,同伞不同棒" as I can't and I neva blame for it.

I really hope tat I can find my way out of this and continue fighting for my future and the rest of my life. But some how I did ponder upon is this the correct choice for me to work as an IT exec? Hmm I duno. It’s getting bored of and I hope there will be a light out there as my guidance for me to continue walking.

KUALA LUMPUR: The price of petrol and diesel is up by 30 sen a litre effective today, the highest increase in the past two years.
However, the Prime Minister's Department, in a statement, said that this would be the only increase for the year.
Public transport and commercial vehicle operators only face a 15 sen rise for diesel.
“The Government has decided to introduce a direct subsidy for these operators, making up 84% of diesel users, through a fleet card scheme,” the statement stated.
“With the card they will be able to buy diesel at 15 sen less per litre than the new price.
“The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry has sent out letters to the operators who qualify for this scheme.”
The Prime Minister's Department also said the savings from the price increase would be used “to pay for development projects and improving the public transport system for the benefit of all people.”
The decision to increase the price of fuel was to overcome the impact of rising crude oil prices and to curb the increase in subsidies paid by the Government.
The announcement was made in a statement from the Prime Minister's Department at 10.30pm yesterday.
The retail price for petroleum products is being raised because last year the amount of subsidy borne by the Government was RM7.41bil whereas tax exemption stood at RM7.85bil.
“The burden of subsidy and tax exemption borne by the Government from January to February this year was RM1.19bil and RM1.44bil respectively,” the statement said.
The statement said that without the government's subsidy and tax exemption, the retail price of these products in March would have been higher.
Without the subsidy and tax exemption, the price of RON 97 in the peninsula would be RM2.46 a litre, RON 92 RM2.37 a litre, diesel RM1.98 a litre and LPG RM3.21 a kg.
In Sabah, RON 97 petrol without subsidy and tax exemption would be RM2.45 a litre, RON 92 RM2.37 a litre, diesel RM1.97 a litre and LPG RM3.35 a kg.
In Sarawak, the price of RON 97 petrol without subsidy and tax exemption would be RM2.45 a litre, RON 92 RM2.36 a litre, diesel RM1.97 a litre and LPG RM3.34 a kg.
“Although the Government is raising the price of petroleum products, diesel and LPG, the price of petrol and diesel in Malaysia is still cheaper than in other Asean countries except Brunei,” the statement said.

i was trying to installing something and setting up some of the prog used in my new company ...
then i encountered some prob... so i was google-ing around and struggle for that ...
then finally i go and ask my senior... then 1st thing he told me was... "Did u RTFM?" ... hmm i was thinking wtf is tat and i neva listen before ... then i straight go to google and found that ... "RTFM" = Read The F*cking Menu .... tat time i really got "zha dou" and in the end he showed me the menu and ask me to followed. So from now on i will RTFM until i get my things solved.

But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.

One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.

According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. I think we should try this instead of letting the prices go up like as they like.

A man eats two eggs each morning for breakfast. When he goes to the grocery store he pays 60 cents a dozen. Since a dozen eggs won't last a week he normally buys two dozens at a time..

One day while buying eggs he notices that the price has risen to 72 cents. The next time he buys groceries, eggs are 76 cents a dozen. When asked to explain the price of eggs the store owner says, "The price has gone up and I have to raise my price accordingly".

This store buys 100 dozen eggs a day. He checked around for a better price and all the distributors have raised their prices. The distributors have begun to buy from the huge egg farms. The small egg farms have been driven out of business. The huge egg farms sell 100,000 dozen eggs a day to distributors. With no competition, they can set the pr ice as they see fit. The distributors then have to raise their prices to the grocery stores.

And on and on and on. As the man kept buying eggs the price kept going up. He saw the big egg trucks delivering 100 dozen eggs each day. Nothing changed there. He checked out the huge egg farms and found they were selling 100,000 dozen eggs to the distributors daily. Nothing had changed but the price of eggs.

Then week before Thanksgiving the price of eggs shot up to $1.00 a dozen. Again he asked the grocery owner why and was told, "Cakes and baking for the holiday". The huge egg farmers know there will be a lot of baking going on and more eggs will be used. Hence, the price of eggs goes up.Expect the same thing at Christmas and other times when family cooking, baking, etc. happen.

This pattern continues until the price of eggs is 2.00 a dozen. The man says," There must be something we can do about the price of eggs".He starts talking to all the people in his town and they decide to stop buying eggs. This didn't work because everyone needed eggs.Finally, the man suggested only buying what you need. He ate 2 eggs a day.

On the way home from work he would stop at the grocery and buy two eggs. Everyone in town started buying 2 or 3 eggs a day. The grocery store owner began complaining that he had too many eggs in his cooler. He told the distributor that he didn't need any eggs.Maybe wouldn't need any all week. The distributor had eggs piling up at his warehouse.

He told the huge egg farms that he didn't have any room for eggs would not need any for at least two weeks. At the egg farm, the chickens just kept on laying eggs.To relieve the pressure, the huge egg farm told the distributor that they could buy the eggs at a lower price. The distributor said, " I don't have the room for the %$&^*&% eggs even if they were free".The distributor told the grocery store owner that he would lower the price of the eggs if the store would start buying again..

The grocery store owner said, "I don't have room for more eggs. The customers are only buying 2 or 3 eggs at a time"."Now if you were to drop the price of eggs back down to the original price, the customers would start buying by the dozen again".The distributors sent that proposal to the huge egg farmers. They liked the price they were getting for their eggs but, those chickens just kept on laying. Finally, the egg farmers lowered the price of their eggs. But only a few cents. The customers still bought 2 or 3 eggs at a time.

They said, "When the price of eggs gets down to where it was before, we will start buying by the dozen."Slowly the price of eggs started dropping. The distributors had to slash their prices to make room for the eggs coming from the egg farmers.The egg farmers cut their prices because the distributors wouldn't buy at a higher price than they were selling eggs for. Anyway, they had full warehouses and wouldn't need eggs for quite a while. And those chickens kept on laying.Eventually, the egg farmers cut their prices because they were throwing away eggs they couldn't sell.

The distributors started buying again because the eggs were priced to where the stores could afford to sell them at the lower price.And the customers starting buying by the dozen again. Now, transpose this analogy to the gasoline industry.What if everyone only bought $10.00 worth of gas each time they pulled to the pump? The dealer's tanks would stay semi full all the time. The dealers wouldn't have room for the gas coming from the huge tank farms.

The tank farms wouldn't have room for the gas coming from the refining plants. And the refining plants wouldn't have room for the oil being off loaded from the huge tankers coming from the Middle East.Just $10.00 each time you buy gas. Don't fill it up.You may have to stop for gas twice a week but, the price should come down.Think about it.As an added note...When I buy $10.00 worth of gas that leaves my tank a little under half full.

The way prices are jumping around, you can buy gas for $2.65 a gallon and then the next morning it can be $2.15.If you have your tank full of $2.65 gas you don't have room for the $2.15 gas. You might not understand the economics of only buying two eggs at a time but, you can't buy cheaper gas if your tank is full of the high priced stuff.

Also, don't buy anything else at the gas station; don't give them any more of your hard earned money than what you spend on gas, until the prices come down..."

Teh Tarik Not The Cause Of Stroke, Says Health Minister

PENANG, Jan 5 (Bernama) -- The Health Ministry Thursday clarified that the habit of drinking teh tarik is not the cause of stroke among Malaysians.

Its Minister Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek said high blood pressure, diabetes, life stress and smoking or practising an unhealthy lifestyle as among the factors which contributed to stroke.

He said that the issue came about as teh tarik contained high level of sugar or condensed milk which could contribute to diabetes, while one of the factors for stroke pointed to this disease. (diabetes).

Chua added that the statement saying drinking teh tarik was among the contributing factors to stroke among Malaysians was not accurate as it was not proven by any research.

He was commenting on a report in the local media which quoted a physiotherapist Dr Balwant Singh Bains as saying that more younger generation in this country were exposed to stroke and one of the reasons was their passion for teh tarik.

"We welcome any views from medical or health practitioners but any views should be backed by strong evidence, such as saying that obese people are more prone to stroke, " he told reporters after officiating the Linear Accelerator machine for cancer here today.

Chua added, inaccurate statements could create worry amongst the public and hence, such claims must be supported by strong evidence.

He said that Malaysia recorded 50,000 stroke cases a year and this meant that in every hour, six Malaysians were attacked by stroke and it was thus a high rate.
Studies found that 60 per cent of those attacked by stroke had high blood pressure.
"So as to avoid any disease, people should practice a healthy lifestyle by taking care of their food intake and exercise, and do not smoke," he said.

Chua said that studies also found 20 per cent of Malaysians had excessive body weight and Malaysians had been taking 120gm of sugar on average, when it should only be 50mg.

Hope this wont happend in the future again.

Louis Braille was born in town near Paris, France in 1809. As a toddler he used to watch his father make shoes. One day, while his father was not watching, he picked up a sharp pointed tool for making holes in leather called an awl. The awl slipped, piercing his eye and damaging it beyond repair. The other eye became infected and before long Louis Braille was completely blind.

At the age of 10 Louis was sent to a school for blind children in Paris. Children were taught to read and write using a system of raised letters. This system was difficult to use as it was hard to tell the letters apart. One day a soldier called Charles Barbier visited the school. He had developed a system for reading messages in the dark based upon a series of raised dots. Louis Braille realised the potential of this system and developed it so that it could be used for blind people.

Louis Braille's system was not accepted at first. One Headteacher even banned the children from using it but this only spurred them on to learn it in secret. Soon the benefits of the new system were realised.

When Louis Braille grew up he became a teacher at the school in which he was a student. It was not until after his death, however, that his system was widely adopted. Today, Braille is used in almost every country in the world.

carefully...it's hilarious!!! But try not to laugh.

My dear Jagjit, I am in a well here and hoping you are also in a
well there. I'm writing this letter slowly, because I know you
cannot read fast.

We don't live where we did when you left home. Your dad read in
the newspaper that most accidents happen 20 miles from home, so we
moved 20 miles.

I won't be able to send the address as the last Sardar who stayed
here took the house numbers with them for their new house so they
would not have to change their address.

Hopefully by next week we will be able to take our earlier address
plate here, n that our address will remain same too. This place is

The weather here isn't too bad. It rained only twice last week.

The Johor National Parks Corporation is willing to collaborate with anyone wanting to carry out a study to verify the existence of "Bigfoot" in Johor.
Its director, Hashim Yusoff, said today there was a need for a scientific study to determine once and for all if such a creature existed in Johor.

Without dismissing the claims of sightings of "Bigfoot", he said his staff had found no physical evidence of the presence of "Bigfoot" either in the Endau-Rompin National Park or the Tanjung Piai National Park.

Sightings of hairy creatures said to be about three metres tall have trickled in over the years, especially from along the forest spine connecting Endau Rompin, Kota Tinggi and Tanjung Piai.

In the latest sighting, a fish researcher from the Johor branch of the Malaysian Nature Society claimed he spotted "Bigfoot" footprints at a swamp near Sungai Sedili in Kampung Mawai, Kota Tinggi.

MNS adviser Vincent Chow said there had also been numerous "Bigfoot" sightings by villagers, who refer to the creature as hantu jarang gigi (snaggle-toothed ghost).

Villagers claimed they were usually seen during the monsoon and fruiting seasons, sometimes raiding orchards but not harming anyone.

Chow said, as a child, he had joined his father on search expeditions whenever a sighting of the creature was reported.

EVIDENCE: A footprint reportedly left by ‘Bigfoot’ at a swamp in Kampung Mawai near Kota Tinggi recently.

"These creatures could be trapped in a time warp and have not evolved like other animals," he said. "Forced to breed among themselves, they have not changed much over the ages and are greatly reduced in numbers."

Chow said there was worldwide interest in the "Bigfoot" phenomena and a lot of research was being carried out in Australia and America but not in Malaysia.

He said MNS Johor’s investigations had found that the sightings were consistent about the size of the creatures, their habits, and the shape and size of their footprints.

He said sightings of the creatures were reported in Tanjung Piai last year and at Kahang, near Kluang, about five months ago, with similar footprints found at all three sites.

In 1995 a massive search was organised by the authorities of the dense jungle at Tanjung Piai following reports by villagers of a sighting there, but they found nothing.

Although fresh footprints with the distinctive four toes of the creature were found, "Bigfoot" remains elusive.

In 2001, at the 40,197ha Endau-Rompin National Park, several Forestry Department officials, Rela members and campers reported seeing the creature.

One of the sightings was at Sungai Kincin, a tributary of the Endau River. Fish bones were found scattered, possibly indicating that a "Bigfoot" family of three had just had their meal there.

torrent
A torrent can mean either a .torrent metadata file or all files described by it, depending on context. The torrent file contains metadata about all the files it makes downloadable, including their names and sizes and checksums of all pieces in the torrent. It also contains the address of a tracker that coordinates communication between the peers in the swarm.

swarm
Together, all users sharing a torrent are called a swarm. Six peers and two seeds make a swarm of eight.

peer
A peer is one instance of a BitTorrent client running on a computer on the Internet that you connect to and transfer data. Usually a peer does not have the complete file, but only parts of it, however, 'peer' can be used to refer to any participant in the swarm (in this case, also known as a 'client').

seed
A seed is a peer that has a complete copy of the torrent and still offers it for upload. The more seeds there are, the better the chances are for completion of the file.

leech
A leech is usually a peer who has a negative effect on the swarm by having a very poor share ratio - in other words, downloading much more than they upload. Most leeches are users on asynchronous internet connections who through either ignorance or choice do not leave their BitTorrent client open to seed the file after their download has completed. However, some leeches intentionally hurt the swarm to avoid uploading by using modified clients or excessively limiting their upload speed.
The term leech is also incorrectly used to refer to what should properly be called a peer, a member of the swarm who has not yet downloaded the complete file.

tracker
A tracker is a server that keeps track of which seeds and peers are in the swarm. Clients report information to the tracker periodically and in exchange receive information about other clients that they can connect to. The tracker is not directly involved in the data transfer and does not have a copy of the file.

availability
(also distributed copies) The number of full copies of the file available to the client. Each seed adds 1.0 to this number, as they have one complete copy of the file. A connected peer with a fraction of the file available adds that fraction to the availability (ie. a peer with 65.3% of the file downloaded increases the availability by 0.653).

interested
Describes a downloader who wishes to obtain pieces of a file the client has. For example, the uploading client would flag a downloading client as 'interested' if that client did not possess a piece that it did, and wished to obtain it.

choked
Describes an uploader to whom the client does not wish to upload. An uploading client 'chokes' another client in several situations:
The second client is a seed, in which case it does not want any pieces (ie. it is completely uninterested)
The uploading client is already uploading at its full capacity (ie. the value for max_uploads has been reached)

snubbed
An uploading client is flagged as snubbed if the downloading client has not received any data from it in over 60 seconds.

The bittorrent protocol breaks the file(s) down into smaller fragments, typically a quarter of a megabyte (256 KB) in size. Peers download missing fragments from each other and upload those that they already have to peers that request them. The protocol is 'smart' enough to choose the peer with the best network connections for the fragments that it's requesting. To increase the overall efficiency of the swarm (the ad-hoc P2P network temporarily created to distribute a particular file), the bittorrent clients request from their peers the fragments that are most rare; in other words, the fragments that are available on the least number of peers, making most fragments available widely across many machines and avoiding bottlenecks. The file fragments are not usually downloaded in sequential order and need to be reassembled by the receiving machine. It is important to note that clients start uploading fragments to their peers before the entire file is downloaded. Sharing by each peer therefore begins when the first complete segment is downloaded and can begin to be uploaded if another peer requests it. This scheme is particularly useful for trading large files such as videos and operating systems. This is contrasted with conventional file serving where high demand can lead to saturation of the host's resources as the consumption of bandwidth to transfer the file to many requesting downloaders surges. With BitTorrent, high demand can actually increase throughput as more bandwidth and additional “seeds” of the file become available to the group. Cohen claims that for very popular files, BitTorrent can support about a thousand times as many downloads as HTTP.
